The potential of Côte d'Ivoire in manganese is estimated at 12 million tons. In 2024, four (4) mines are in operation in Bondoukou (in the Gontougo region), Guitry (Lôh Djiboua), Kaniasso (Folon), and Lagnonkaha (Poro).
Manganese production in Côte d'Ivoire saw a significant increase starting in 2017, reaching a peak of 1,325,526 tons in 2020. This improvement is attributed to the rise in international manganese prices beginning in 2016, the commissioning of enrichment units at the Lauzoua mines (CML), and the effective start of production at the Lagnonkaha mine (Shilo Manganese) in 2017.
In 2021 and 2022, production decreased by 27.5% and 3.3% respectively due to the cessation of operations in the last quarter of 2021 following a drop in international manganese prices and the temporary halt of activities by the Société d’Ivoire Mine Manganèse SA (IMMSA) for logistical reasons, among others.
In 2023, production increased by 26.4% with the resumption of activities by Société IMMSA.

In perspective, the increase in manganese production is expected to continue with the intensification of activities by IMMSA in the Odienné department. Thus, manganese production is projected to reach 1,292,830 tons in 2024 and 1,410,360 tons in 2025.
