PRESENTATION

The Region of Grands Ponts is located in the south of Côte d'Ivoire and is subdivided into three (03) Departments: Dabou (Capital), Jacqueville, and Grand-Lahou. It covers an area of 5,500 km², which is 1.71% of the national territory.

  • Dabou, the capital of the region, is a Local Economic Connector (a small town that is at an embryonic stage of urbanization facilitating internal economies of scale, such as hosting a large company that processes local agricultural products) characterized by a subsoil rich in oil and gas resources (Study on the Competitive Economic Pole Development Program - PEC, 2018). It practices cash and food crops. Dabou is also the city known for producing Attiéké par excellence;
  • An industrial zone exists there, housing industrial units with an industrial land reserve of 331 ha, including 151 ha in Dabou and 180 ha in Jacqueville (MCIPPME, 2022);
  • Mobile network coverage (July 2023): 97.76% of localities and 98.73% of the population are covered.
  • Health: The health infrastructure in the region covers most of the technical platforms.

  • Extractive industries: existence of industrial companies producing gas and oil;
  • Tourism: the tourism offer in the region includes:
  • the lagoon course of nearly 200 km of navigable waterways;
  • the Fort of Dabou;
  • the stilt villages in the village of Tiagba;
  • Grand Lahou: former French trading post on the coast near the mouth of the Bandama River with some colonial houses, a training center for agricultural mechanization. Large oil palm plantations;
  • Jacqueville: beaches, former trading post of the lagoon people "Alladjan", stilt village of Tiagba, the Jacqueville bridge.

INVEST IN THE REGION

As part of the implementation of the National Development Plan (PND) 2021-2025, the Grands Ponts Region is included in the area covered by the Agro-pole food basin and agro-industrial zone near Abidjan (Agro-pole 5).

Investment opportunities exist in the following sectors:

  • Agriculture: Investments in the development of food supply chains (vegetable growers, cassava), cash crops (rubber, oil palm), as well as livestock and fisheries (fishing, poultry), and also in soilless cultivation.
  • Tourism: Construction of hotel facilities along the beach to develop the tourism sector, beach development;
  • Fishing: Projects for the construction of docks to revive maritime and fishing activities, the establishment of a wholesale fish market in Jacqueville, and the creation of shrimp and lobster production units;
  • Oil and gas: Project for the conversion of natural gas into ammonia and nitrogen fertilizers;
  • Construction and Public Works (BTP): Project for the construction of a new city in Jacqueville over an area of 300 hectares.
