South Comoé Region


PRESENTATION

The Sud-Comoé Region is located in the South-East of Côte d'Ivoire and is subdivided into four (04) Departments: Aboisso (Capital), Adiaké, Grand-Bassam, and Tiapoum. It covers an area of 7,189 km2, which is 2.23% of the national territory.

  • Aboisso, the capital of the region, is a Secondary Economic Connector (a city that has reached an intermediate stage of urbanization facilitating localization economies through competition among businesses in the same sector) that serves as a platform for exchanges and a production basin for rubber (Study on the Competitive Economic Pole Development Program - PEC, 2018). Furthermore, its economy is diversified and partly relies on cocoa, coffee, oil palm, pineapple, cassava, as well as mining and hydroelectric exploitation;
  • Sud-Comoé is in the phase of wealth creation through industrialization while aiming to transform its main agricultural products;
  • Two (02) main industrial zones exist there (MCIPPME, 2022):
  • Bonoua with 329 ha, has 23 active companies on an area of 51.4 ha;
  • Assouba (Aboisso) with 50 ha, has 04 companies, of which 02 are active.
  • Additionally, there are land reserves intended for industry: Aboisso (207 ha);
  • Mobile network coverage (ARTCI, July 2023): 100% of localities and 100% of the population are covered.
  • Health: The health infrastructure in the region covers most of the technical platforms.

  • Agro-industry: Processing of rubber and oil palm;
  • Other industries: 2 mineral water extraction plants, wood industry, beverage industry;
  • Tourism: The region's tourist offerings include:
  • Grand Bassam: UNESCO heritage site with colonial houses dating back to the 1930s, beaches, costume museum, artisan village, Azuretti fishing village, and the former Apollonian trading post specialized in the slave trade called Moossou;
  • Assinie: beautiful shores to the east of the Comoé River mouth, numerous hotels along the coastal strip between the sea and lagoon.

INVEST IN THE REGION

As part of the implementation of the National Development Plan (PND) 2021-2025, the Sud-Comoé Region is included in the area covered by the Agro-pole of food basin and agro-industrial zone near Abidjan (Agro-pole 3).

 

Investment opportunities exist in the following sectors:

  • Free Zone of Grand Bassam: Village of Information Technology and Biotechnology (VITIB);
  • Agriculture and Agro-industry: Establishment of processing plants for cash crop productions (cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber) and development of the fisheries sector;
  • Agro-industry: Creation of rubber and oil palm plantations, processing of palm kernel waste and coconut husks into derivative products.
  • Mining Resources: The region has gold mining potential that benefits from exploration permits, particularly in the departments of Aboisso and Tiapoum.
