ASSESSMENT OF BILATERAL COOPERATION
Agreements and Conventions
Relations between Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso are punctuated by several agreements.
Three (03) Cooperation Agreements were signed in Ouagadougou at the end of the 8th Summit Conference of Heads of State of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), held on July 30, 2019:
- Framework Agreement for Trans frontier Co-operation;
- Cooperation Agreement in the fields of mining and geology;
- Cooperation agreement on the protection of children on the move.
In addition, the two (02) countries are committed to promoting sub-regional integration, in particular through the improvement of the business and investment climate through the establishment of reciprocal privileges, the fluidity of trade at the air and land level as well as the facilitation of the right of establishment, access to work and residence of nationals of both countries.
- In addition, four (04) agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed during TAC 7, in Yamoussoukro, on July 27, 2018:
- Cooperation Agreement in the fields of Digital Economy and Posts;
- Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in film and audiovisual co-production, training and exchanges;
- Memorandum of Understanding on the practical modalities for the operation and implementation of the Ivorian-Burkinabe Fund for the Advancement of Women (FACIBF);
- Memorandum of Understanding on the practical modalities of operation and implementation of the Ivorian-Burkinabe Friendship and Cooperation Fund for the Integration of Youth (FACIBIJ).
Several other cooperation agreements exist in different fields. These include:
- Framework Negotiation Agreement for the rehabilitation, construction and operation of the Abidjan-Kaya-Tambao railway and the construction of the ore terminal at the Port of Abidjan, signed on July 31, 2014, in Ouagadougou;
- Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters, signed on July 30, 2014 in Ouagadougou;
- Memorandum of Understanding on the Joint Commission for the Materialization of the Border between the two countries, signed on July 30, 2014, in Ouagadougou.
- Protocol establishing the Joint Committee for Monitoring the Fluidity, Traffic and Free Movement of Persons and Goods, signed on July 30, 2013 in Yamoussoukro;
- Cooperation Agreement to Combat Cross-Border Child Trafficking, signed on July 30, 2013 in Yamoussoukro;
- Cultural Cooperation Agreement signed on December 28, 2009 in Ouagadougou;
- Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), signed on July 29, 2008, in Ouagadougou;
- Political agreement signed on March 4, 2007, in Ouagadougou;
- Cooperation Agreement to Combat Child Trafficking in West Africa signed on July 27, 2005.
In addition, the two (02) parties agreed to institute periodic consultations between them on important foreign policy issues in order to reach, as far as possible, a harmonized position. Also, in countries where one of the two (02) States does not have diplomatic representation, the other State with a diplomatic mission ensures its interests.
In terms of security, military and judicial, the two countries have decided to promote their collaboration with a view to promoting sub-regional integration against organized crime and transnational criminality.
TRADE
A. The main products exported are: cereals, starchy foods, peaches, fresh pineapple, cola, bananas, oilseeds, rubber, sugar, tobacco, processed wood, processed cocoa and coffee, pineapple juice, sugar confectionery, palm oils, other preserves and preparations, fertilizers, essential oils, chemicals, plastics, petroleum products, cement, paper and cardboard.
B. The main imported products are : dairy products, fruits and vegetables, cotton, building materials and road transport materials.

- The value of bilateral trade reached 536 300 billion of CFAF in 2022, against 344 800 billion of CFAF in 2021;
- Over the period 2018-2022, the average value of Ivorian exports is estimated at 368.140 billion of CFAF/year against 8.260 billion of CFAF/year for imports;
- Over the period 2018-2022, the trade balance is in surplus for Cote d’Ivoire
