Agreements and Conventions

In the Economic and Financial Field

Côte d'Ivoire and Saudi Arabia cooperate in international forums, notably within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).

Cooperation with the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has been reflected in financial contributions to public sector projects. These include:

  • Extension of the northern highway between Singrobo and Yamoussoukro, with a total amount of 8.3 billion FCFA;

  • Project for technical and vocational education institutions, amounting to 5.139 billion FCFA;

  • Project for the development and paving of the Bouna-Doropo road at the Burkina Faso border, amounting to 12 billion FCFA;

  • Project for the supply of drinking water to the city of Abengourou and surrounding areas, with a total amount of 8.791 billion FCFA;

  • Donated program for drilling and rural development, amounting to 3.54 billion FCFA.

As of October 21, 2019, six (06) financing agreements have been concluded with the SFD for a total amount of approximately 38.73 billion FCFA. These funds are primarily loans, with only one grant of 3.5 billion FCFA granted to Côte d'Ivoire in 2016 to finance a drilling and rural development program. The sectors concerned include:

  • Road infrastructure, with an amount of 21.25 billion FCFA, or 54.88% of the interventions;

  • Drinking water, with an amount of 12.33 billion FCFA, or 31.84% of the interventions;

  • Education, with an amount of 5.13 billion FCFA, or 13.28% of the interventions;

Additionally, a loan agreement was signed on October 30, 2019, for an amount of approximately 13 billion FCFA for the construction and equipping of the Abobo University Hospital (CHU);
Another loan agreement was signed on October 30, 2019, for an amount of approximately 9 billion FCFA for the execution of the pilot development program for rural areas.

Furthermore, as part of its economic cooperation projects, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through Official Development Assistance (ODA), has supported Côte d'Ivoire in implementing various projects.

In the Social Field

Notable contributions include:

  • Financing of 1.8 billion FCFA for the completion of the Salam Mosque in Plateau, Abidjan, along with a donation of two (02) ambulances for the Worodougou region;

  • A donation of 18 million FCFA for the Islamic Institute of Gagnoa;

  • A donation of 64.505 million FCFA for the construction of the office for the President of the National Assembly;

  • A donation of 7,000 Qurans to Islamic Associations;

  • A Saudi Medical and Educational Caravan in Côte d'Ivoire from March 19 to 27, 2013;

  • Aid for the rehabilitation of looted mosques.
