Agreements and Conventions

Côte d'Ivoire and the Central African Republic have very few agreements, except for the following:

  • Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, signed on March 8, 1971.

  • Air Transport Cooperation Agreement, initialed on August 11, 2004, but still pending signature.

  • Both countries have agreed not to require entry visas for their nationals.

In March 2007, the National Bureau of Technical Studies and Development (BNETD) and the Central African authorities signed a convention for advisory and technical assistance. Through this agreement, Côte d'Ivoire aimed to contribute to the reconstruction and development of the Central African Republic.

Furthermore, the Central African government committed to establishing and maintaining a framework for dialogue and consultation with the BNETD. As a result, the BNETD has been called upon to develop economic infrastructure and draft the master plan for urban planning and development of Bangui.

A. Main exports from Côte d'Ivoire to the Central African Republic: textiles and footwear, plastics, paper, cardboard, and publishing products, precision and optical instruments, and mechanical and electrical devices.

B. Main imports from the Central African Republic to Côte d'Ivoire: almost nonexistent. The imported products are other consumer goods.

  • The value of bilateral trade reached 16 billion CFA francs in 2023, compared to 4.6 billion CFA francs in 2022.

  • From 2019 to 2023, the average annual value of Ivorian exports was estimated at 6.02 billion CFA francs, compared to 0.012 billion CFA francs per year for imports.

  • During the 2019-2023 period, Côte d'Ivoire maintained a trade surplus.
