Agreements and Conventions

 

  • Agreement on the creation of a Joint Ivorian-Nigerian Commission, signed on March 2, 2013, in Abidjan during the state visit of H.E. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

  • Economic, scientific, and technical cooperation agreement, signed in Yamoussoukro on June 25, 1987, and ratified by both countries.

Seven (07) cooperation agreements were signed in July 2013 during the first session of the Joint Commission held in Lagos, Nigeria:

  • Cooperation agreement on crime prevention.

  • Agreement on cultural, educational, and scientific cooperation.

  • Memorandum of Understanding in the field of industry.

  • Cooperation agreement in higher education and scientific research.

  • Cooperation agreement in the field of tourism.

  • Trade cooperation agreement.

  • Cooperation agreement on combating child trafficking in West Africa, signed on July 27, 2005.

  • Air service agreement between the two countries, signed on December 10, 1976, in Lagos.

  • Air transport agreement, signed on July 18, 1964, in Abidjan.

Nine (09) agreements were signed during the Joint Commission held on November 6-7, 2021, in Abidjan. These agreements cover, among other areas, military cooperation, civil protection and technical assistance, consular and migration issues, and digital economy.

Ten (10) new agreements are under negotiation, and ten (10) new agreement projects have been initiated.

A project directly linking both countries, the Abidjan-Lagos Trade and Transport Facilitation Project (PFCTAL), has received financial support from two major international partners: the World Bank and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.

A. The main exported products are: Rubber, cashew nuts, raw cotton, wood, processed cocoa, essential oils, plastic products.

B. The main imported products are: Plastics, road transport equipment, iron and steel, mechanical machinery, automobiles, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

  • The value of bilateral trade reached 1,691.5 billion FCFA in 2023, compared to 1,473.5 billion FCFA in 2022.

  • Over the period 2019-2023, the average value of Ivorian exports was estimated at 88.7 billion FCFA per year, compared to 1,053.8 billion FCFA per year for imports.

  • During the 2019-2023 period, the trade balance remained in deficit for Côte d'Ivoire.
