Agreements and Conventions
Several cooperation agreements have been signed between Côte d'Ivoire and South Africa in various fields. These include, among others:
Agreement establishing the Grand Joint Cooperation Commission between Côte d'Ivoire and South Africa, signed on December 5, 2015;
Memorandum of Understanding on air services exploitation, signed on July 30, 1993;
Agreement establishing diplomatic relations, signed on May 21, 1992;
Cooperation Convention for the technical management of the Abokouamékro wildlife park, signed on July 26, 1990.
Furthermore, the two countries have abolished visas for holders of diplomatic or service passports for stays not exceeding 30 days.
Other draft agreements are currently under negotiation. These include:
Memorandum of Understanding on Economic and Technical Cooperation initiated by three (03) Ivorian Ministries: the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Commerce, Craft and SMEs Promotion, and the Ministry of Industry and Mines;
Cooperation Agreement in Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Technological Innovation initiated by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research;
Agricultural Cooperation Agreement initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture;
Cultural Cooperation Agreement initiated by the Ministry of Culture and Francophonie;
Cooperation Protocol on Road Infrastructure Development initiated by the Ministry of Economic Infrastructures;
Economic and Technical Cooperation Protocol;
Framework Cooperation Agreement.
During the State visit of President S.E.M. Cyril Ramaphosa in December 2021 to Abidjan, nine (09) agreements were signed:
Defense Cooperation Agreement;
Cooperation Agreement in the agricultural sector;
An agreement, concluded for an indefinite period, on air services;
Cooperation Agreement on youth promotion;
Memorandum of Understanding in Information and Communications Technologies;
Agreement on energy, mining, geology, and hydrocarbons;
Memorandum of Understanding in employment;
Agreement on women's empowerment and gender equality;
Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations.
Additionally, six (06) new bilateral cooperation agreements were signed on July 22, 2022, in Pretoria, during the State visit of President Alassane Ouattara. These agreements focus on social development and social inclusion, economic cooperation, and transport.
A. The main exported products are: rubber, cashew nuts, bulk cotton, wood, processed cocoa, essential oils, and plastic products.
B. The main imported products are: plastics, road transport equipment, iron and steel, mechanical machinery, automobiles, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

The value of bilateral trade reached 379.6 billion FCFA in 2023, compared to 373.7 billion FCFA in 2022.
During the 2019-2023 period, the average value of Ivorian exports is estimated at 264.1 billion FCFA per year, compared to 80.6 billion FCFA per year for imports.
During the 2019-2023 period, Côte d'Ivoire maintained a trade surplus.
