The Autonomous District of Abidjan is located in the south of Côte d'Ivoire, along the Atlantic Ocean, specifically in the Gulf of Guinea. It is subdivided into thirteen (13) Municipalities (Abobo, Adjamé, Cocody, Koumassi, Plateau, Port-Bouet, Treichville, Marcory, Attécoubé, Yopougon, Anyama, Songon, and Bingerville) and four (04) Sub-prefectures (Anyama, Songon, Bingerville, and Brofodoumé). It covers an area of 2,119 km2, representing 0.7% of the national territory.

- The population of the city of Abidjan is 5,616,633 inhabitants, including 2,851,614 men and 2,765,020 women (INS, RGPH 2021).
- Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d'Ivoire, is one of the most important urban centers in Sub-Saharan Africa. It houses most of the Republic's institutions, financial institutions, major companies in the country, embassies, and international organizations. It has a port ranked among the top 10 most competitive in Africa. Furthermore, the Autonomous Port of Abidjan is the largest in the West African sub-region in terms of capacity, traffic, and transit for landlocked countries.
- Almost all industrial facilities in Côte d'Ivoire are located there.
- Four (04) industrial zones exist there (MCIPPME, 2022) :
- Yopougon on 469 ha with 349 active companies ;
- Koumassi on 120 ha with approximately 300 active companies ;
- Vridi on 120 ha with 132 active companies ;
- Akoupé-Zeudji PK24 (on the northern highway) covering an area of 940 ha with 115 active companies occupying a total area of 156 ha.
- Twelve (12) international schools operate there, including :
- Three (03) colleges and high schools with Ivorian and French programs ;
- Six (06) colleges and high schools with French programs ;
- One (01) high school with an American program ;
- One (01) high school with an Ivorian program ;
- One (01) primary school with Ivorian and Canadian programs.
- Mobile network coverage (ARTCI, July 2023) : 100% of localities and 100% of the population are covered.
- Health: The health infrastructure in the region includes most of the technical platforms.

- Wood sector: export of logs and sawn timber ;

In addition to being the main industrial hub of Côte d'Ivoire, the Autonomous District of Abidjan is part of the area covered by the Agro-pole of the food basin and agro-industrial zone as part of the implementation of the National Development Plan (PND) 2021-2025.
